WE ARE PASS+MOVE

OUR ETHOS

Picture
‘What is our Ethos.’ It’s such a broad question and can create ambiguous and generic answers. So Instead ask us two questions. Ask us What do we believe? And then How do we deliver it?

What do we believe? We believe it is our job to ‘inspire’. We aim to ignite a passion for football in your child, one we all share. We want to fan the flames of creativity and help nurture a curiosity that will led them to training, practicing and learning on their own. Einstein said ‘Logic will get you from A to Z; Imagination will get you everywhere.’ We are not trying to create Premier League footballers, any coach who tells you this, for us, is misguided (after all the success rate for the 1.5 million youth footballers playing at any one time is a tiny 0.012%). We want to help your child learn to express themselves, to experiment on a football pitch, learn from error and above all ‘Play Without Fear’. We want them to develop a love of the game that means eventually our role with them will become redundant. Development through enjoyment, in a safe environment. It’s too easy to forget that football is supposed to be fun!

We believe we are not producing footballers but that we are helping equip young men and women for the challenges that await them in life. Do we want our young players to dream of becoming professional footballers? Of course we do! Do we want to instill in them the drive and commitment to try and push for their dream? Without doubt! But we believe we have a duty of care to help our players build the character to not only strive for their dreams - whatever they may be - but also to give them the support network and safe platform to which they can always return, no matter what their journey in life holds.

How do we deliver this? That bit is simple, with fun, enjoyable, technical sessions. We want to teach your child how to handle the football, how to manipulate it, how to protect it, and how to express themselves on it. To ‘Play without fear’. Our sessions provide structured learning yet encourage a curiosity that asks them to try new things. From our Saturday F.F.A. session through to special One-to-one's, we aim to provide each individual child with the focus they need to grow and develop. All our coaches are FA certified and whilst we have our own dedicated WFO, we see them all as Safeguarding Officers. Beneath the surface of Pass+Move is a structured development plan, not only for our individual players, but also for our coaches and our club as a whole. The game continues to evolve and we aim to move with it.

Creativity, Courage, Curiosity and Character our very own 4 C’s. Four word's that inspire our players to 'Play Without Fear.'

We are a family. We are a journey. We are Pass+Move.

Who Are We?

Duncan Jones and Tony Harris are both FA Level 3 - (UEFA B) and Youth Module 3 coaches and members of the FA Licensed Coaches Association.

They formed Pass+Move in 2011 for slightly selfish reasons. They’d seen their children lose interest in football and their development stall. The coaching clubs they had been attending, while well run by good coaches, had failed to hold their children’s attention. So, in an effort to help their youngsters grow the same kind of affinity with the game they have had since a young age they formed Pass+Move based on a very specific belief and ethos.

Lifelong friends, both had good youth careers, Duncan’s seeing him playing for Norwich, Nottingham Forest, Charlton and Brighton as a youngster. Eventually signing for the later as a youth player. And Tony’s lead to the rare accolade of making it to the final of the FA Youth Cup with Sussex Under 18’s in 1994, which was played at Bradford's legendary Valley Parade. Sadly both failed to make the grade as professionals and fell into Non-League Football, which saw them play for Hastings Town, St. Leonard’s Stamco and Peacehaven among others. Both ended their playing career at local club Westfield where they played together for 8 years in the Sussex County League before taking over the reigns as joint managers. It was here where they developed their belief in the correct way to help young players develop and progress through the football pyramid.

Since Pass+Move's birth in 2011, it saw success working in conjunction with Westfield Football Club and their fantastic youth set-up, which was overhauled by the team, before they moved to set up their own club in the shape of Sporting Club Pass+Move.

The growing success of what they are trying to deliver is hugely down to the talent and enthusiasm of the growing Pass+Move family, specifically Ross, Tom and Harley who have allowed the coaching school to expand to now include it's various weekly offerings including 'Girls only' sessions, In School classes and F.F.A. sessions within the community.

Tom Saunters
Tom is a Level 2, Youth Module 1 coach. He is Chair of the inaugural Sussex FA Hastings Youth forum and Chair of the inaugural Sussex FA county wide youth council. He has been a member of the SCFA young coach development programme for 2 years. And had the accolade of being named Sussex FA Young Volunteer of the Year at the 2016 ceromony.

He began coaching his local primary school team at the age of 15 after a week in the school for work experience. This led to weekly sessions and his own small grassroots Saturday morning session, until Ross invited him to help out at Pass+Move.

He has been coaching with Pass+Move since that day and has become an integral part of the setup. In many ways he has become the benchmark for all our young coaches - a role model 'Pass+Move' coach.

He is now full time with Pass+Move, leading the after school clubs, PPA cover, community sessions, Girls only sessions and school and S.C. Pass+Move teams.

Harley Discala
Harley Discala is a Level 2, FA qualified coach. With a 2:1 in Physical Education, he is continuously applying skills, ideas and an ethos moulded from the school and university environment, alongside his previous experiences in football and other academies, in an effort to achieve the best out of his sessions.

Harley’s love for developing youth, in not only football, but also physical activity in general, has stemmed from influences from his mid-teens. Many of his mentors over the years have helped develop his abilities and views on childrens development, including Tony and Duncan themselves through his time working under them at Westfield.

Harley’s role at Pass+Move specialises in the early stages of movement, sporting and footballing development. A topic of which he has studied in great detail; Harley introduces children at the age of 3-6, helping them take the first stepping stones for the social, psychological, physical and technical side of the beautiful game we all know and love.

Ross WIlliams
Ross is a FA Level 1 and Youth Module 1 qualified coach. Having been successful in his university studies, he has also obtained a Bachelors of Science in Sports Coaching (2:1).

Ross’ love for football stemmed from an early age, having represented both club and county at numerous age groups. Ross went on to play for Westfield FC 1st team, managed by Tony and Duncan themselves.

He became an integral member of the Pass+Move set-up in 2012, bringing with him close friends Tom Saunters and Harley Discala. Having been involved in sport for the majority of his childhood, Ross is keen to give something back to the children of today’s society, of which he is able to do through coaching at Pass+Move.  Regularly coaching at the Pass+Move holiday courses and after school football clubs. A return to the famous Pass+Move Saturday sessions hopefully on the horizon!

“For me Pass+Move football coaching does not just offer the opportunity for players to develop technically and tactically, but an opportunity to develop values and social skills, all whilst keeping physically active!”
